The News from A L Kennedy

2011 Summary...

2011 is already as stupidly busy as 2010 - plenty of radio pieces appearing as the year goes on - including a documentary and some (intentional) drama. Several film and theatre projects are in the offing at the moment and as soon as we have any firm details we will post them on the site.

And - of course - there will be a new novel "The Blue Book" appearing on the 4th August and being shamelessly promoted until everyone is sick of it - perhaps quite quickly...

The Radio Scotland sitcom "Laverloch Findo Speaks" appeared in the spring with Barbara Rafferty and Andy Gray, among others - the others including ALK.

A radio drama by ALK "Confessions of a Medium" was broadcast on BBC Radio Four on 13th March, 2010 at 14.30. Cast: Bill Nighy and Robert Glenister, Jonathan Keeble, Fiona Clark, Andrew Westfield, Daryl Fishwick and Daniel Browell for that. Which made us happy. They did a splendid job. There should be one or two things along not completely dissimilar lines later this year.

If you're in Germany or German-speaking countries there should be a fair amount of ALK about the place this year - so pleanty of opportunity for continental trains to break down, catch fire, or get lost and end up in Moldova...

The Stories From Latitude offering seems to be getting unreasonable numbers of repeats, so listen out for that - and the banjo-playing one may emerge again... Or the oilspill one, or the train one... who knows...

The WORDS show hasn't quite retired yet, but there should be a new show coming along in 2012. Yes, 2012 isn't that far away, suddenly.

Wicked Wenches

Wicked Wenches at The Stand Comedy Club, EdinburghA.L.Kennedy performs regularly - other work permitting - at the Wicked Wenches comedy evenings at the Stand Comedy Club. We often get reviews from One4Review and you can check the latest, or indeed their archive by using this link. And all our sympathy to Geoff from that site on the death of Sheila - a lovely lady.

For Wicked Wenches dates please use this link to the very fine people at The Stand ALK may cancel at quite short notice, because other duties intervene, so do check, should you specifically want to see her. The evening is always excellent and can be recommended, whoever is playing. Of course, if you find the idea of women speaking in public (or at all) distressing, or the concept of women being funny unpalatable, then you may wish to stay at home - or else be prepared to have your horizons adjusted.

Wenches gigs are on the first Tuesday of the month in Edinburgh and the first Wednesday of the month in Glasgow. The Stand will always know the latest details.

ALK is now on Twitter, so feel free to sign up and follow.

There's an audio recording of the reading ALK gave on 11th Jan in the RADA Foyer Bar at this site for Writloud.

Three essays went out on Radio 4 - on 16th, 17th and 18th of February in the Afternoon Reading slot.

And "Confessions of a Medium" went out on Radio Four at 14.30 on 13th March.

You may also have noticed a variety of odds and ends on cultural telly programmes.

ALK wrote and performed a From Fact into Fiction for Radio Four which was broadcast on 5th June and a Christmas ghost story for Radio Scotland in Dec 2010.

There is a link here to a broadcast for Forum of the World Service.

There will be more radio material in 2011 - we'll let you know as links and info become available. For detailed listings go to Events 2011 page. There are also occasional appearances on the Today programme and The Review Show.

A L Kennedy Events 2011

assembly4.jpg2010 involved many gigs, readings, appearances and performances in, among other places, Galway, Edinburgh, New York, Santa Fe, Philadelphia, Viginia, Hay on Wye, Montreal and London. Thanks to everyone who came along and made them fun.

2011 may be less busy, but there will still be festival outings and talks and whatnots and, of course, an amount of shameless promotional activity for the new novel.

Thanks to everyone who is now following ALK on Twitter - that will continue to be the estanblished blend of conversation/party chat/advice column and loose ranting.

Department 5 will be posting more information and links for 2011 soonish, but here are the first firm(ish) dates we have.

Please don't panic if your event isn't listed here - we are not infallible and may have missed you - it doesn't mean ALK won't turn up. Although you might want to double check...

ALK also undertakes teaching and events which are not open to the public, so this isn't a complete list - just in case you make a request for something and are told that a date is unavailable, even though it isn't marked down here. And there are always all those hours and hours of pondering, typing and rewriting to pack in - to say nothing of all those moments completely wasted in eating or sleep...
